No Ultram a Week Before Knee Surgery? I have a torn ACL and will have my surgery in one week. I know I can't take anti-inflammatories, but Ultram was also on the list. I take Ultram at night for pain, especially on days I have physical therapy. Anybody know why?
I plan to call the doctor's office tomorrow, to double-check.
B H replied: "NSAID anti- inflammatories (and Ultram falls into that category) interfere with platelet aggregation. Thus, bleeding times are increased as it take longer to form a clot. Your surgeon is trying to reduce any possible complications from surgery - like excessive bleeding. BTW, blood in a knee joint is VERY painful. That's why hemophiliacs had so much pain in their lives."
Are the meds I'm on now going to effect me during surgery? I'm having surgery 4/4 and I'm going under general anesthesia. I take Ultram a few times a week for headaches and sometimes I take an OTC sleep aid at night. Will these meds interfere with the anesthesia? I wont take anything the night before of course. Prolly just thin my blood right?
Yeah I will ask on Monday, but I was seeing what others thought,
I know, I know!!!! replied: "You should definately talk to your doctor about this. They usually want to know everything you have taken before they do surgery.
Good luck, I hope your surgery goes well."
Medicine Woman replied: "Don't ask people on here about something you should ask your Dr. about. I would say it won't hurt anything but ask your Dr. please."
LYNN W replied: "You need to talk to the anesthesiologist and/or surgeon. They may actually want you to take a sleep aid night before surgery to make sure you get a good night's rest. They are the only ones that will know the answer to this one."
petzcat replied: "You will give your doc a list of your meds before surgery but these meds won't interfere with your procedure. Ultram and the Sleeping aid (tylenol pm or something similar) will not thin your blood because neither have an effect on coagulation. Do not take Aspirin or anything containing aspirin before surgery unless directed by your doc.Give your MD a call before surgery and he will let you know what you should or should not take. You are advised not to eat or drink anything for at least 8hrs because the risk of aspiration is high. Taking those meds, however, the night before should not interfere."
I'm having an initial exam with a new dentist on Tuesday, will he prescibe me Ultram for the pain? I've been taking anti-biotics for my front tooth. It's rotten on the top, and it's hollow in the bottom back part. The ER has also been giving me 50 mg. Ultram (generic), for pain.
On the first visit, will the Denist prescribe me some Ultram for my tooth pain? It's also in the gums. Hydrocodin makes me itch, and feel nausious.
I should be out of Ultram just around the time of the visit to the Dentist on Tuesday. If he prescribes it before any surgery will there be a refill, or will it be only 20 pills like the ER prescribes?
kjw replied: "If he prescribes it, I strongly doubt there will be a refill. I would also be surprised if you received that many pills. Better to take care of the tooth problem than continue covering it over. Please do...you'll feel much better. Take care."
How To Convince my Husband I Need Pain Pills? Me okay... 2nd Total Knee Replacement in 5 years. I was given Lortab last time I had the TKR. Of course I liked them not only to kill the pain I'd lived with for years but it made me feel good. I don't drink/smoke/do drugs so this was something new. I took more than prescribed and kept getting refills. My DR didn't have a problem with it. I haven't done anything illegal. The cement holding my replacement together broke off and it has to be redone. May be a few months due to insurance. I am in very bad pain. Aleve and Ultram..a joke! I would like to ask my DR for Lortab at my visit tomorrow husband with me. My husband through a fit and said if I took Lortab before the surgery our marriage would be over. I have given it a lot of thought and I plan to take them as prescribed....not 3 every 4 hours but as prescribed, 1-2 every 4 to 6 hours. How can I write husband a letter and tell him I am willing to take as prescribed? He knows I am in pain.mHe is angry I would consider taking.
Violet Pearl replied: "This is something your doctor needs to decide on with you, not your husband. Perhaps there's another painkiller that would be more suitable."
Peter K replied: "He said he would leave if you take Lortab? Can you get him to put that in writing? Sounds like you have a very unsympathetic hubby."
yeeblazer replied: "you should not have abused them before. I would be acting the same way as your husband. You have proven you can not take them responsibly so why should he trust you with these. Offer that he be the one to give them to you when perscribed. So you have no control over when you get them but he gives them to you as needed. this way he does not have to worry about you breaking his trust again."
Patty J replied: "The problem is you had an addiction before. Ask the doctor to prescibe you a different medication so that you do not become re addicted. Then ask your husband to give them to you when they are due so that you cannot take more than prescribed dose. He should have no trouble with that and neither should you if you are serious about not abusing the dosage. Good luck."
krissyp replied: "he has no idea how your pain feels, I think its crazy that he thinks he should decide if you take medication or not, it is your doctors decision."
monkey replied: "I think your husband might be concerned that you have become addicted. Certainly if you had been taking more than was prescribed, your husband might be right. Your doctor is a fool if he kept giving you prescriptions when he must have known you were going through the pills way too fast. I would take a long hard look at the way you are using, or abusing this medication. You probably should change the pain med. And make a promise to yourself, and your husband that you will stop taking them in a reasonable amount of time and take something else - yes, like Aleve!!! Problems in the family is one of the main indications that a drug problem is occuring. And you, yourself, said you will keep taking them -but only as prescribed. Even tho your husband said he would leave you if you took them again. Come on, wake up. You have a problem!!!!"
Avalon von Aldaran replied: "I'm sure you are aware of the fact that a lot of people get addicted to pain killers and maybe your husband is worried and thinks that this is the case.Be careful and only take them if you are really in pain and NOT because they make you feel better somewhat.Good Luck"
Born2Bloom replied: "It is quite obvious that there is more to this story for sure. I am with your husband and yes I do know where you are coming from and that is why I am with your husband on this one. You need to be using non-narcotic pain relief. Every time there is a pain in life we do not need to take a pill. Toughen up a bit and show them what you can stand. I made it through 4 c-sections and old fashioned gall bladder surgery with no pain relief at all and was back to milking and haying in less than one week. You've already abused them before and never again can you take them. I would leave you too if you insisted on taking them. You can get by without doing so. You're being weak."
pobrecita replied: "Personally I wouldn't be with a man that would try and tell me I couldn't take pain meds that I need, but since he is probably worried about you becoming addicted then tell your hubby that he can be responsible for your meds and give them to you as prescribed."
pugswifey replied: "I am addicted to painkillers for three years now. I have an appointment Wednesday to be put on a drug called suboxen. I never dreamed that my life could be totally consumed by a freakin pill! My husband would tell you the same thing that yours is. You are obviously leaving some major part of the story out. He wouldn't just say that for no reason. Wake up and see what time it is. Whatever it takes you might want to look into the drug that I am getting ready to take."
Dee replied: "I would tell him that you are in serious pain, sometimes you don't have a choice, PAIN is a hard thing to deal w/during our day to day activities. Perhaps other medications such as naproxen, of some sort? Be honest w/yourself and him before you address the situation."
how did you quit opiates ,tramadol (ultram)? i am addicted to tramadol i take somewhere around six 50mg tablets everyday. i have surgery coming up soon and am wondering if i should notify my doctor prior to surgury or just stop taking it before the surgery? also what are the options available to someone who wants to quit tramadol? would they work with my health care plan or would it be out of my own wallet?
Also, i didn't get the prescription from the doctor i am dealing with for my surgery. It isn't on my medical records that I am taking them. It's stupid, but I didn't tell my primary physician because i was worried they wouldn't prescribe me medication if I really need it in the future.
Squirrle replied: "Notify your doctor before surgery, they need to know if there will be any reactions to what you are on. Your life trumps your addiction. Your doctor will know how to treat you and they have experience taking patients off meds slowly. If you do it cold turkey you could go through withdraw or serious medical complications. It may be embarrassing but you gotta do it!"
Mai replied: "Pain reliever like tramadol is only effective if u take it correctly. If u already addicted to it, when u in pain next time, the other pain relievers may not be working to u. so is best u consult your doctor and inform them, to ask for assisted in dealing your addiction.
Also, your doctor may start u on tramadol as they are not aware, so u
may be double-dose or toxic. or worse, u may have dangerous drug-drug interaction, that could be dangerous for yourself. so u should not purchase any medication without consult your doctor/healthcare professional.
also, if u stop it yourself, u may experience some withdrawal symptoms, that is unbearable and could be dangerous.
so I would strongly recommend u to inform your physician soon and I am sure they will be willing to help to go through this.!"
Recovery time for laparoscopic cholecystectomy? I got my gallbladder out yesterday. I have been taking Ultram and Oxycodone even four hours but it still sucks. I've never had any kind of surgery before. :(
How long should I expect until I start feeling better? And how long should it take the incisions to heal?
:(

ladyren replied: "No clue, hon.
I had that surgery, one afternoon and felt no pain, walked out the the hospital the next day, took it easy for a day or two, and barely took tylenol.... In your place, I'd go back and see your doc."
Brit replied: "Hi, some of the pain you are feeling could well be the gas which is used to inflate the abdomen during surgery. The incisions that are made can be a little sore for a few weeks, I felt uncomfortable when I had the surgery for about a month to six weeks, but of course it can differ with each person. I hope you feel better very soon."
Legality of non-prescription Ultram online/questionnaire checkups and associated dangers.? To all those in the medical community:
Since the age of 14 I have experienced extreme stabbing pains originating in my lower back descending down both or either leg. Furthermore, the pain often causes considerable nausea. Concerning this problem, I have visited doctors regularly for 8 years now. I was diagnosed with (what I worry is a bogus etiology) Degenerative Disk Disease. I regularly engage in core muscle exercises and stretching therapy - which although helps some; does not suffice to adequately reduce pain. I swing from strong aches to immobility. On a good day, I walk with a slight limp. On a bad day, I walk with a cane; if I walk at all. I have spent various degrees of time over the past 8 years taking medicines which include; celebrex, nuerontin, robaxin, and hydrocodone; as well as having received a spinal epidural. Currently, I am taking ultram and exercising regularly. This has kept my mind clear, as well as has not encouraged respiratory problems such as hydrocodone did. Although this regiment helps more than any previous treatment, it does not always suffice to adequately reduce pain.
Recently, as I finished school; I was taking 100-150mg Ultram, 1800mg Ibuprofen, and exercising regularly. This kept me quite mobile and pain free. Upon graduation, crashed economy, not finding a job, etc I have had to return, again, to manual labor. Again, my entire body aches/hurts constantly. Now, I exercise, take 2400 mg Ibuprofen, and up to; but no more than, 300 mg Ultram daily (still less than the FDAs maximum daily dose of 400mg). I have had swings like this before; and am well aware that once I can return to less physical work I will be able to greatly reduce my intake.
My most recent MRI states:
decreased signal intensity of the intervertebral discs at L4-5 and L5-S1, consistent with disk degeneration and decreased water content. bulging of L4-S1 disc. Area of altered signal involving disc central and extends adjacent to the S1 nerve root. Most likely etiology is disc herniation with some adjacent granulation tissue or fibrosis.
However, I have yet to meet a doctor who would recommend surgery or anything invasive on an individual my age. I am essentially left in limbo to do nothing but hurt while at the same time bombarded with individuals in and out of the medical field shouting the dangers of prescription medicine use. I have recently graduated school and am ineligible to visit my prior doctor at the University Clinic, and am again without insurance. Therefore I am unable to refill my Ultram. So now I am faced with the blissful prospect of paying $150-300 (which I dont have) simply to speak to YET another new doctor explain my situation and look like a junkie because I have no prior history with this new doctor; OR purchase this medicine online and avoid the whole aggravating mess.
I have put myself through college, twice, while on pain-killers. I have yet to miss a day of work or class, receive anything less than excellent grades, or damage any personal relationship due this prescription my family is well aware of my prescription. Quite frankly in my experience with tramadol, I am unaware of any side-effect which would encourage abuse. So please do not:
1) Say; go visit with your doctor.
I have seen thousands of individuals on this site explain they have no insurance; only to be answered with; Pills are bad you should go speak to your doctor. That is both a fruitless answer; as well as ill-contemplated. If they could easily afford to speak to a doctor they would.
2) Narrate a story of your loved ones pill habit or how addicted you are/were.
I am an extremely productive member of society and it is only my distaste for excruciating pain that stands in the way of my immediate quitting. And regardless, in a week when my prescription does run out I will be quitting; pain or no pain. At which point, I will become useless to all those around me again.
My Questions:
1) I am looking for any/all recommendations for this situation.
2) What daily mg quantities indicates addiction (Approximation obviously)?
3) What would you recommend in place of exercise and Ultram?
4) Is there new research (outside of what is obviously posted on the internet) on the application of Ultram on Depression.
Half the individuals on here claim it helps immensely, the other half say it only encourages their depression. All I am aware of is that since I have begun Ultram; my mood swings have diminished. Essentially every male in my family has been diagnosed with Bipolar I. Even my brother has recently been diagnosed with Cyclothymia. I appear (since 2007) to be the only male in my family who maintains a stable mood. I am not manic, sluggish, unreliable, bouncy, stoner-like, or any other adjective associated with opium use. I simply find this curious and am enjoying my new lack of depressive lows and anxiety attacks.

I took it for a while for fibromyaglia, but it exacerbated my depression to the point of suicidal consideration. I am glad it seems to work for yours.
I know what it feels like to see new drs and look like a pill head. I get it too. I'm in the process of looking for new drug. The only thing that lets me be a productive part of society and relatively pain free is lortab 10's. How do you ask for that without looking like a seeker? But it hard to get across from them, that youre not a seeker or an addict, you don't get high from it, you just are able to function.
Good Luck"
twood1218 replied: "You need to see a doctor!
And this is a well contemplated, thought out answer! If you cannot afford a doctor, you need to get into the public assistance network, and fidn a way to a make this work. You need to do a lot of research before making an appointment with a doctor. You want to call around and talk to people to find a doctor that you think has a reasonable chance of being able to help you. It is not worth spending your time and money on a doctor who will not have something new to offer.
Chronic pain medicaitons are never the first choice for managing a chronic problem. You need a doctor who will sit down and come up with a plan. For example: try treatment X for 1 month, if that doesn't work, then will explore treatments A and B. You need to discuss this long-term plan and understand it. You also need to communicate with the doctor so that he/she lets you know what they think the best case scenario will be. Do they expect you to be pain free, or do they only expect to be able to manage your pain better.
If you end up needing to stay on chronic pain medications, then you need to go to a pain specialist. A pain specilaist is going to be much more knowledgable about the appropriate treatments and their long-term effects. Pain specialists are often accustomed to working with people with financial difficulties, since chronic pain often makes it difficult to work.
You also need to be putting in a lot of effort to find work that is not manual labor. If you just keep hurting you back, there is nothing anyone can do for you. I realize that you cant change jobs tomorrow, but you need to look seriously at short-term and long-term solutions. You might be better off working in a coffee shop for lower pay, than you are tearing up you back every day.
The important thing for you to do, is work on a long-term solution, which is not getting Ultram through non-legal sources."
someone's mom replied: "I have heard individuals state that Ultram has impact on mood. Although it is non narcotic, Ultram, just like any other medication, has potential for addiction/abuse. However, if it is effective in controlling your pain, I personally see no reason to discontinue this medication.
Degenerative Disk Disease is a very real condition and does warrant attention.
There is bound to be a free clinic where you live. You can have your records from the university forwarded to wherever you choose to be seen.
You do need to get your rx refilled ASAP since it is providing such relief. Need to try to cut back on ibuprofen (Ibu) as it does have potential for abdominal bleeding and often presents with silent symptoms. There are other anti-inflammatories a doc can prescribe but you will no longer be able to take the Ibu while taking any other anti-inflammatory.
Have you tried applying heat? Can try doing long soaks in hot bath and sleeping on the heating pad if this provides relief. Or can apply ice after your day at work. Check out what feels best and provides relief. This is up to you.
Surgery needs to be discussed with a knowledgeable physician taking into account your age, rate of deterioration, history, etc. Surgery is not always a productive solution but sometimes a gamble. Some folks never have another pain, others get a buildup of scar tissue that is irreversible. One leg will always be affected despite the surgery. So these are all concerns that need to be addressed with a physician.
Best of luck to you......"
Where can I buy hydrocodone online with a site that offers doctor's prescription/consultation? I had 4 operations, and I was taking hydrocodone as needed from my old family doctor with no side effects. I moved to another state and nobody wants to prescribe it for me because they're afraid of being investigated (if they had this pain they'd prescribe it for themselves in 5 secs). There are pharmacies online that work with online physicians who review your medical records and issue a prescription AND medication. I did this (from WA) for a total cost of $300. Anyone know of a site that might be cheaper but offers same service? I don't have an addictive personality. I bet somebody I could stop using sugar for 2 years, and I won. 15 years ago I bet somebody I could quite smoking in 5 minutes and I won that bet too. I tried Ultram but it doesn't work as well. Lyrica & cymbalta made me sick. (I'm talking carpal tunnel surgery, ulnar nerve surgery, forearm tumor removal surgery, and hernia surgery all in one day kind of pain.) P.S. before this I never was sick in my life.

AdamSteffens.com replied: "Hydrocodone is considered a narcotic. Therefore a script must be presented to a pharmacy due to the legal ramifications. Your better off going to a clinic."
Mandy VZ replied: "Why not just use the same service you've been using? It's not going to get any cheaper when dealing with a Records Only Pharmacy. That's actually a pretty good price, from what I understand. These types of services cost a lot because you're kind of making an end run around the system. If you don't want to pay that much, get a referral to pain management. If you have your records for the ROP, then you can take them to a pain doctor and they will review them and prescribe accordingly."
Sunshine replied: "Merck of course, this is where my parents get their medications and they seem to have better prices. "
Difference between these pain prescriptions? both of these are opiods i am sure and are used for treating different levels of pain. i took vicodin before when I had surgery for 3 months straight, and now my friend is using Ultram recreationally in very small amounts, was doing vicodin prior to this.
*what is stronger, vicodin or tramadol(ultram)?
*are they different types of opiates? i thought that one of them has aspirin in them, which could afftect its overall strength.
*also what is the difference between oxycotin, lortab, darvocet, percocet, oxy codone, and hydrocodone? are some just generic names? someone told me oxycotin and percocet are the same except oxycotin is time release. how is that so if percocet is MUCH weaker, even in high doses?
thank you
my friend is complaining about severe withdrawal symptoms, shaking, sweating, chills, lack of motivation, depression. i know if the body gets use to having something like a syntheitc opiate it will freak out when stopped, but in her case, i dont get it. shes only been on them for a week (with VERY LOW DOSES) and ive heard ultram is MUCH weaker than vicodin, morphine , percocet etc. when i stopped vicodin it didnt sound as bad as what shes going through.
ann replied: "vicodin depending on milligrams ultram is usually for stomach pains like menstrual cramps yes there are different strengths. some are generic names and percocet and Oxycotin are both pretty strong controlled substance level 4 I do believe and codones usually means they have codeine in them oxycotin very strong medicine"
tim d replied: "while it is true that vicodin is stronger than ultram. Ultram is not an opiate. Niether has aspirin in them. Both have Tylenol. However ultram is VERY good at relieving withdrawl. I should know I've been taking drugs for about 24 years. I have suffered withdraw many times. But I have to take about 5 or 6 ultram to help my withdraw. You and your friend may have to take a few more or a few less I dont know. Ultram makes me itch and everything(just like these opiates, lortab, oxycontin, percocet and hydros (without as good a buzz.) Darvocet will help to if you or your friend take 4 or 5 but not as well.(it is weak not an opiate)
Lortab and hydros both are opiates both have hydrocone.Oxycontin and Percocet both have oxycodone. Percocets start out at 5mg and go up to 15 mg of oxycodone and 325 to 500mg of tylonol. Oxycontin does not have tylonol. Oxycontin is stronger because there is more oxycodone 20 to 180mg But I never got a buzz on oxies untill I took tylonol with them. I have to go for now. E-mail me for more info.( I can tell you a-lot) more)"
Hydrocodone Question? I need help, I'm prescibed low doses of hydrocodone and I missed my appointment last week and just ran out! ?
Ok, My doctor started me on low dose of hydrocodone(two 10mg pills a day) and promised that the low dose would not make me addicted. I had a appointment with him last Tuesday, which was when I was scheduled for a refill, but I missed the appointment and couldn't reschedule until this Tuesday coming up. I took my ;ast pill Saturday night,(I don't always take both pills a day)and now I have all of the withdraw symptoms of the pills, and it's not fun. I've been taking 2pills daily since July now, with increases of them with 2 surgeries that I've had. My question is, will flexeril or ultram help with the withdraw symptoms(I am also prescribed these meds to take daily but never take them unless I absolutely have to) and haven't got them filled for awhile, so I don't want to get them filled unless they'll help. I'm also taking Imodium AD, to help with the withdraw symptoms. Help please!! I've never went through this before and I'm MISERABLE! So will ultram and flexril help? and what else can I do?
katieL replied: "actually 10 mg is a very high dose especially taking two a day, I would definitely take the ultram instead because its a non- narcotic."
randomman090 replied: "The ultram is a pain killer. I wouldn't recommend it. If you want relief from withdrawal take the Flexeril it will relax you and should make you feel better. If it doesnt work i would take the ultram also. (10mg is not a high dose 20mg+ is enough to make you loopy and feel crappy. Its ment to be taken every 5 hours) try rest if you want you could go to gnc and get a detox pill. try foods high in antioxidants"
skywatcher replied: "Yes, Ultram and Flexeril will help with the withdrawal symptoms. Try to take the least amount of medication as possible to tolerate the withdrawal symptoms and just give it time. Try to eat well, drink water and rest a lot. Also, find a new doctor"
